Park at Mt Crichton Loop Track carpark. Take the track to the left of the toilets for 100m odd, turn left. Follow track down through beech forest to 12 mile delta, turn right towards bridge over small chasm. Follow the track as it heads up the hill and then towards Bobs Cove.
Once at Bobs Cove, take the left hand track Bobs Cove Nature Walk (approx 4km) to get a fabulous view from Bobs Peak. Follow the track along ridge as it heads down to meet the main Bobs Cove Track and pass *very famous instaspot at Bobs Cove Jetty (line up or take a dip).
Head back around the bay to the Bobs Cove Car Park ( approximately 6.6km. Run along the RHS Glenorchy Rd - there is space behind the barrier to run and most places have space to run alongside the road or in the ditch. Be aware and be careful - it is a busy road (approx 2.25 km along road).
As you head down the hill towards the 12 mile bridge, you will see an alternative entrance to Sam Summers (also known as Mt Crichton Loop Track) on the LHS. Take this slightly overgrown track to the beginning of the track and decide which direction you want to go.
It is a 7km loop with beautiful beech forests, alpine swamp/grass land, views of Lake Dispute and Wakatipu, stunning creeks, waterfalls and Sam Summers slate hut and various gold mining relics.
Once you have completed the loop, follow directions back to the carpark and take care crossing the road as the crossing has poor visibility and cars rocket past.
Sam Summers Hut, Gold mining relics and tailings, Bobs Cove Jetty, Limestone Kilns (Bobs Cove).
Mt Crichton Loop Car Park & Bobs Cove (on your right past bay).
Heaps of parking at carpark. No public transport.

This is a great trail all seasons. Do expect snow and ice in winter and you may need to get your feet wet depending on how far up the river is. The bridge 10 mins in (clockwise direction) was washed out and so you stone skip to get across the creek if you don't want to get your feet wet.
Some drop offs and steep areas. Mind your children. Trees and branches may fall in high wind or big snow.
Do you have a suggestion on where to go afterwards for the best coffee / cake / breakfast / brunch / beer?
